So totally last minute...
Ok, so.
Posting from my cellphone at work.
just wanted to let you know that today, Saturday, from the time you read this until about 1;30, the archeology team is doing its demonstrations and such as it takes part of the 13th cultural season.
Come see the site, the findings, and the people that i have to deal with.
park at bayt dickson (on the gulf road), and look left. See that catering truck (on site)? Yeah, walk the muddy path to it.
(and bring me a book or magazine or something. 'My Name is Red' makes me sleepy).
until the next post...

poopoo!
"""""""""" And I know how well you'll do on ur digs... judging by ur past diggings (mainly in ur nostrils and armpits).. """"""""" made me totally lose some of my tall skimmed decaf toffee nut latte.
thanks.
(ilovepoopoo!)
ps: no mom, zandra isn't telling me to use, or hinting at, anything to do with little bags of cocaine. it's a line of a song i keep singing. the same song you raised your eyebrows at when i sang it over lunch. and no, this isn't the same 'why did i kiss him so hard late last friday night' song.
Just so we're clear.
YAY!
Wanasa o qahar :) wanasa ligaw artefacts and layout of old housing grids bas lilasaf ildeera mafeeha illy yiqaddir....ma3a i7tirami majlis ilthaqafa wilfinoon ily ilmafrooth yihtim ib hal ashya'a ma yi3abirha (khair daleel Maktabat elshi3ir;) ) Keep up the good work ... Can't they just build the damn qarya turathiya somewhere else? 3ala fikra sima3t ina ilqarya is not really the exact same replica as to what the area used to look like in terms of roads and houses (so SHILFAYDA? :P)
Hi, I just got referred to your blog from a friend of mine.
First of all, good work!
Second of all, read my post that I wrote last year about this issue. I mentioned the qaria turathiya part at the end.
Anon:
The Majlis doesn't deserve 'i7tiramik/ch' :p
Maku a77ad iqaddir becuase it's being bled dry in terms of money that should have been allocated to such silly issues like RESTORING WHAT LITTLE HERITAGE WE HAVE.
*sigh*
But there's always hope on my end, with the collections at Dar al Athar and Tareq Rajab and the like.
Government = beauracracy = nothing getting done.
One of my biggest complaints about the whole Majlis is that you practically have to beg your way in. Most people apply there becuase it's a cushy easy job. The ones that WANT to go there are dissapointed and tend to leave within a year or two. We've had so many people just up and leave becuase of the politics and the gangs that form. It's entirely infuriating.
Part of why i have this blog is to inform the public of the importance in recognizing that yes, we do have amazing arficats, and that we need public support (and demand) in taking care of them. Another part of why i decided to make this public is to hopefully catch one or two people that might come across this and be like, 'dude, we need your help'. But then they might get so fed up with the bullshit that they might just give up.
It's awesome as a career and field, but as a place of work, it's sorely dissapointing.
.... I just totally bummed myself out :p
Q:
7ayyak ya booya.
Being referred to by a friend makes me feel like i should probably take this blog more seriously :p
And here i thought only my friends (if even them), read this :p
On with the real issues: The 6 people that are supposed to protect these sites are also the archeologists, the conservationist, the restorer, and the photographer.
And all six are all of these things. (however, you can specialize. I, par example, am the the conservationist/restorationist, as well as an archeologist).
The issue with protecting these sites are 1- money 2- mizaniyya, and 3- dinero, hombre. Basically, all we can do is sit there and put up these wired fences (if even that..), and hope that the 'Mamnoo3 el Dukhool, Ardh Athariyya' sign will stop the trespassers.
It's entirely infuriating.

Thanks for that post you mentioned, you have a bigger fan base and i'm glad someone else cares :)
Ps: how much do we love the Dar? hehe
