Archeology Uncovered, Indeed!
Saturday: Dec. 9, 2006: Official Excavation Start :D
After surveying, studying, and prepping for the Tell Bhaita site (where the 2nd Gate of Kuwait is supposed to be..), the team started.

My trench, aptly named TR1. It's 17m in length (at the longest), and about 5 meters in width.
And i need need a step to get out, considering it's about 140cm.
These are "my 3imaal". Archeologists, believe it or not, don't exactly get in the muck of it themselves. They supervise the workers.
I jumped in and brushed alongside them after i kept holding my breath, getting agitated, and realized that a hammer just smashed the lip and handle of a pot.

My notes and drawings, which are not to scale, not drawn properly, and not legible to be read by anyone other than me...

This wasn't found in my trench, but in another one. However, the 3amil who worked alongside myself yesterday came to me to clarify.
It's a coin, recent (1900's), and shaped like a hectagon (10 sides, yes?)

This is how your trench is supposed to look like. You basically sweep, find something, throw away the dirt and sand, and place the artifact back where you found it.
The photographers then take pictures, do the drawings, pick up the important pieces, and bag them.
However,
my work isn't done.
After frustration on my part (i am on the archeology team but was requested as the assistant conservationist/restorationist); i've decided that 8-10 is spent in the lab, and 10-12 is at the site (it's a two minute walk).
We'll see how that goes.
The whole crew and team breaks for about a half hour at 9:30 for breakfast, which i found odd, considering it's included in the meezaniyya. I'm like, dude, can i include my Starbucks in the meezaniyya?! That's three KD's a day. Which buys like, 5 jars of foul or something. That'd be awesome..... i mean, of course, unprofessional.
More to come later :)

Great blog you have here. So you're digging in the Heritage Village site ?
Btw a ten sided polygon is called a decagon and not a hectagon ;)
Decagon.. decagon... deck-a-gone.
Khalas, it's embedded in the little capacity i have going on upstairs. Thanks!
And yes, Heritage Village.
Although, with the rain, the cold, and the general 'ukh-iness', i'd rather be in bed.
That didn't make sense.
And i think it's becuase i keep trying to remember 'decagon'.
Thanks a lot. Now i'm incapable of being coherent.
(ihateyou)
But yes! Welcome!
