Intrigue!

OMG!
So i rush down (i overstayed my required time by like, 58 minutes).
Anyways!
I'm writing this with ink still on my fingers becuase i HAVE to explain to ya'll (yes. "ya'll".) why i love this low-paying, bureaucratic, silly, silly, silly GOVERNMENT job.

Becuase of thieves and robbers.

Oh hell yes.

So yesterday we started the whole numbering thing (we had previously done the cleaning, 'tarmeem', and cataloging thing). Now, numbering (more on that later, btw).

So anyways,
i go to the guy whose overseeing us (one chick, one guy, and me), and was all like, (but in Kuwaiti, and formally :p)
'hey 7amid i'm done with the ones that they laid out for me, and was gonna do the...... ooooooooh, whatcha doingggggggg?"
he's all like,
"remember when i got a call a few minutes ago?"
i'm like, "yeah.. and?"
he's lke (lol), "yeah well turns out we had special detectives 'maba7ith' here"
i'm all like, "whatchu talkin' bout, fool?"
he's like, "come and take a look at this".

I approach the item that was gleaming against its black velvet background, and find myself staring at a peculiar gold coin, one i didn't know we had.
"what the hell is that?!"
he's like, "they just caught some Syrian trying to smuggle this in"
then, he picks it up, shines it under the light, and shows me some marks, which i thought were just wear and tear.
"see those", he asked, "those are original marking of wielding".
Now, becuase i'm such an Alias dork, i was all like, "you mean someone tried to open up this coin, put something in it, like drugs or a micro chip or something, and tried to bring it in?!"
"umm, no, nothing that exciting. it just means that this might be an original monetary symbol that was hand-crafted"
"so your saying that the dude on one of the faces is the leader, and the horse/unicorn/onyx-looking creature is their symbol or crest?"
"very good. Can you take a guess as to from what period?"
Now mind you, i'm a history major, but i'm no Indiana Jones.
"umm, no?"
"i wouldn't know either (laughs). don't worry about it, all they do is bring them for us to photograph them and write up a report. nothing earthshattering"
He then took the coin (the bastard didn't let me hold it, even though my hand outstretched at some point), put it in its case, and took off.

So, i stood there dumbfounded.
He waits for me to leave his office.
I follow him.
He stops to look at me mid-flight with a look that basically asked me to shut up and stop asking questions so much.
"So i guess you didn't know we had an illegal ring of artifact smuggling"
"WTF?!" (except i didn't really say that, i just expressed it :D)
"Oh yeah, we're used to it by now, especially since they opened up the border with Iraq."
I started remembering how looting took place at the museum there, and the scandal it caused.
"They're already stopped some guy who literally had a chunk of a wall with him, and it was the head of (names some Arabic sounding name that i can't remember)."
"So he was literally carrying a part of a wall that had a head?!"
"Yeah, it's someplace here, i just can't remember where.."

By golly if homeboy's right, i'm gonna find that head!

I asked him if it was alright if i shared this story with my friends. He looked at me like, 'you mean you actually consider some things as off-topic?' lol. I love it when Kuwaities assume you can't keep anything under wraps. So he shrugged, and said "sure, if you wanna", which means i rush down here, with ink still on my hands, and remind you again why i love this stupid, no-good, silly job :D

yay 4 excitement,
-me.
