Salaam 'alaykum -
The Qur'aaniyyeen ("Qur'aan Only" people) have already been refuted countless of times. The Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa-sallam) ordered that the Sahaabah not write anything other than the Qur'aan down due to the fact that Allaah was still revealing it at the time.
He, Subhaanah, was still revealing it verse by verse, and they were still in the process of memorizing them all. From his wisdom, the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa-sallam) knew that if they also wrote down hadeeth, they would eventually confuse it with the Qur'aan.
They were allowed to write it down later on. Also, know that the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa-sallam) warned us of the coming of this sect of people. He (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa-sallam) said that there would come a time when a man will recline on his couch saying 'take only from the Qur'aan and nothing else.'
Subhaan Allaah. Therefore, I advise you and others not to be taken in by these people, and to stick to the Sunnah, for the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa-sallam) said that he would be leaving behind two things, the likes of which if we were to hold on to then, we would never go astray:
1) His family, 2) His Sunnah.
And Allaah Himself said He would protect not only the Qur'aan, but the Sunnah. That is "ath-Thikr." And He, 'Azza wa Jal, also said that He granted the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa-sallam) "Al-Hikmah," meaning The Wisdom, i.e. the Sunnah. Subhaan Allaah.
Furthermore, the Qur'aan is more in need of the Sunnah than vice versa. I can go on and on, so please ask if you have any questions. Baarak Allaah feech. Was-salaam.

Thanks for taking the time to respond in the professional manner that you did.
I've grown accustomed to believing that the Sunna COMPLEMENTED the Quran, and nothing else.
Now, to me, it's take it or leave it.
The Quran i don't mess around with (obviously). But the Sunna i find has way too many questionable Fatwa's and such.
One of the secret reasons i love my religion so much is becuase i don't have to go through someone to reach God. Aka: no priests, no redemption to a mere human.
I obviously believe in the miracle of the Quran not changing. And through that, that no one can use it to thier advantage. Which, i'm sorry to say, i've found some unscrupulous mufti's doing.
While, in real life, i am very much technical-related, detail-oriented, and otherwise 'anal' about following rules, i find that my blind faith in my beautiful religion gives me a sort of 'come what may' attitude.
I'm not refuting any of the Hadiths. In fact, we get Wudu and proper praying requirements from it. However, you also get this from the Quran (wudu is mentioned, as is praying).
Anything that i feel is as easily refuted in the Quran as it is promoted is subject to personal interpretation.
Par example, i don't question inheritance laws. I don't question zakat. But i do question women's rights. I do question the hijab.
Bu Seif, i have completed all of my five pillars il7imdililah. What a fantastic god-sent feeling of exhiliration to complete 7ajj! It feels like i'm set for life in a way.
And i don't think i need to rely on the Sunna too much to get to heaven. I know what God asked of me (other than the 5 pillars), and you can bet that i believe being a decent, compassionate, AWARE human being is the 6th (aka: personal jihad).
I honestly do thank you for continuing this discussion with me. It's always very empowering to look at other people and say 'You are just as Muslim as i am' and to remind myself that we all grew up with different ideas and Sunnas and ways of life.
Although, admittedly, i harbour a disdain at the short-dishdasha, long beard, non-negotiating men out there. Mostly, though, becuase their eyes betray this religion of peace and give off a deep rooted hate of thier life. Honestly, they don't even SMILE! Therefore, it's a lot easier for me to believe that i'm a 'better' Muslim becuase i say 'thank you' and treat others with respect. Yes, Sunna might have said to keep their beards, but it didn't mention the holier-than-thou attitude that they feel it gives them.
But that is more from a fear of how politicized Islam has become.
Bu Seif, i don't know how you happened to find my litte obscure blog. I don't know if you're Kuwaiti, and i don't know your background. But at least i can honestly say that i admire and respect the way you have put your ideas forth without coming outright and calling me blasphemous ;p

ps: i contimplated a Religion minor, specializing in Islam, but realized how overwhelming it would be for me. i am my 'best' 'religiously' when i am not questioning. Blind faith and feeling love for, and from, God is keeping my status quo stable.

We've had this discussion on here before. And while i'll remind you that i believe i'm more 'conservative' than you are, i too admire your simple beliefs in 'keeping it real', and not too complicated.
And i definetly believe that il deen yusur. In fact, in a way, i think it's the easiest religion to follow!

'conservative' hmmmm.. lol ;) oh well taqabal alah 6a3tich my dear. for me it's 1.mo3amala, and 2.7alal and 7aram. seriously man i take it seriously :) other than that i believe i can talk about religion freely because one's not supposed to fear religion or God, one's supposed to love them. o ba3dain kil wa7id o thameera. ily thameera muslim then maykhaf min shay ;)
